Finding YOUR Fit

This post may come off as preachy but that isn’t my intention. You’ve been warned. Ha!
My wonderful trainer has me set up with a program that I can do from home or at the gym. Because we’re at the point in the semester where we have back to back breaks, this was desperately needed. When the university is closed, the gym is closed. That is pretty much the only major con of my gym so I’ll take it. I had most of last week off for Thanksgiving so the home plans were used except for one day because I had too much chest congestion and a slight fever. Boo!
I’ve heard a lot of women say that they would love to get in shape but they can’t afford gym memberships or cant find the time to leave the house. I here ya girl and I’m here to offer my unsolicited opinion.
I did most of my Jamie Eason Live Fit Trainer from home with dumbbells and resistance bands after Harper went to bed at night. What I “couldn’t” do from home I did at the gym. If I had taken the time to examine the workouts and what areas of the body they targeted, I’m sure I would have been able to do all of it at home. Or I would’ve made up my own program that was comparable. At that point, I just wanted to jumpstart my weightlifting and for me…Jamie was the way to go.
There are a lot of other programs through bodybuilding.com that you can do from home for FREE. My favorite price. Ha! If you are in a situation where you can and are willing to shell out money for a program like Insanity or Piyo…check out beachbody.com. I had great results with Insanity and loved Chalean Extreme until I got pregnant. I had a high risk pregnancy and wasn’t able to complete the program. Y’all know that I’m a proud member of the Tone It Up community and there are free TIU workouts on their website and YouTube channel. Karena and Katrina also have exercise dvd’s that are much cheaper than anything you’d get from beachbody.com. In most cases, the beachbody programs come with a nutrition guide to get you through the program of your choice successfully. With Tone It Up, there is a nutrition plan that you can purchase separately if you’d like. I got the nutrition plan for my birthday and love it! Karena and Katrina are constantly adding recipes so for me its worth the money. The nutrition plan aims to educate as well.
In a world where social media is booming, there are a large number of personal trainers who can offer online coaching. This is usually for someone (like me) who needs direction and accountability but doesn’t want/need in-person guidance. The only “me time” I get is when I’m at the gym and I treasure that. You will want to make sure that the person is actually qualified, an excellent communicator and passionate. If they don’t have philosophies that match your own…keep it moving. You also need to be willing to put in work. Don’t waste your money or their time.
Do you have any questions about Tone It Up, Live Fit or Insanity?
Are you trying to find your fit?
Do you have any advice for someone who may be trying to find their fit?

WOW and The Ultimate Turkey Chili

When I picked up my phone this morning, I got a pretty awesome surprise! I’m the featured blogger for the Workout Wednesday Link Up (#WOWLinkUp) this week! YES.

Last Friday, I went to the “healthy” restaurant on campus to grab lunch because I did not have anything prepped. Big mistake. I have eaten at said restaurant on numerous occasions and have had the same meal. Whoever was working that day, needs to go back to their normal job because I was sick for days. I’m not going to get into details but it was rough. I did some light cardio over the weekend but not enough to overly exert myself.
The temperature finally dipped in South Carolina over the weekend so I made a batch of Jamie Eason’s Three Bean Turkey Chili on Sunday. I found this recipe on bodybuilding.com when I was doing her Live Fit program during the 100K Transformation Challenge and we loved it! The dish is easy to prepare, relatively inexpensive to make and full of flavor. Jamie (yeah, we’re friends in my head) is a Texan so her recipes are about health and taste.
The chili makes 12 servings and the breakdown of calories and macros are: 196 calories, 1 g fat, 20 g carbs, 24 g of muscle building protein.
Now that I’m back in good health, I’m excited for the week and the training schedule I have laid out. I plan to increase my weights today for back and biceps because I’m getting stronger.

I was tagged by Kristen last night to post “what I’m doing now” while I was leaving the gym. Look at the Fall sky, y’all! That is God and all of his glory right there! I had a trying day at the office, a pretty good workout and walked out to THAT. My day/night got even better from there! We didn’t do anything special but a random trip to the comic book shop on a weekday was a needed treat.

Two gratuitous photos from the gym last night. I did steady-state cardio on the stairmaster because I don’t believe in only doing HIIT. I like to warm-up in the 60-90 step range. And yes, I’m still wearing makeup. I know, I know! One of these days I’m going to live my life right.

What is your favorite, simple Fall meal?

This post was fueled by coffee, pumpkin yogurt with granola and Frank Sinatra Christmas tunes.

Thanks to Michelle (awesome co-worker…the only one I speak to before coffee) I’m signed up to participate in the 100 Happy Days challenge because some days I need a reminder. I’m committed to posting a picture of something that makes me happy everyday…for 100 days! I chose Instagram as my platform of choice, duh, so you’ll find the pictures there. Read more about 100 Happy Days to see if it is something you would like to be a part of.

12 Week Transformation Challenge {Mission Complete}

Last week marked the end of the Bodybuilding.com 100k Transformation Challenge!
12 Week Before and After

I have no clue as to what my stats are because this girl was super busy last week so I didn’t find time to measure or weigh-in. I’m perfectly content with that. I will try to hop on the scale in the morning so that I can give a full rundown.

I don’t have the most dramatic transformation but I’m happy! Lost some fat, awesome! Built some muscle, even more awesome! I’m proud of myself for completing the challenge…even though Mike had to force me to post my final results. I spent an hour looking at other people’s transformations on Bodyspace. Ugh!

Comparison is The Thief of Joy via Earl-Leigh Designs

Instead of rushing to upload my final pictures, I made the mistake of minding other peoples’ business/body/whatever. Don’t do that! Be proud of YOU and all of the work that YOU do to make YOURSELF awesome. Yes, congratulate others but don’t forget to give yourself a smack on the butt too!

After getting myself out of a temporary funk, I posted my after photos with pride. I’m taking steps towards my goals and am moving at a slower pace than some. It’s what works for me.

Do you ever catch yourself comparing your life or goals to someone else’s?

Ice Cream, Beer and Fitness

I was ON point last week. I killed every workout, I filled my body with whole foods and then it happened. I went to a local St Patrick’s Day festival on Saturday and had a few beers. Then I had wings and ice cream on Sunday. I regret nothing. It was glorious. Ha!

This is week 10 of the 100K Transformation Challenge and I’m pumped to be at the home stretch. I’m excited to see everyone’s progress but I’m also proud of the fact that I’ve stuck with it. There were times when I wondered why I was doing any of this “fitness stuff”. Just being completely honest.

I would then remind myself that I set goals and I want to be a good role model for Harper. How can I tell her to live boldly and not do so myself?

Week 10 Progress Update

Yeah…eff the scale because 10 weeks and a six pound difference would’ve sent me straight to Dunkin’ Doughnuts in the past. All of that work and only six pounds. SIX. Eff this noise…I’m getting ice cream. Because muscle is more dense than fat it takes up less space in the body.

For my long term goal of doing a fitness competition next year, I will need to drop more weight and about 6%  more body fat.

I’ve been raving about the Tone It Up Girls for years now and have yet to buy their nutrition program. I’m thinking that I’ll get it for my birthday at the end of the month. I love what they stand for and I’m getting lazy at looking for recipes. Ha! They have it all laid out for you and they do several updates a year. Why haven’t I bought it before…I hate spending money on myself. I feel so guilty when I buy something that’s more than 20 bucks. After seeing their nutrition members’ photos on Instagram, I’m finding that most of the recipes are Harper friendly. I just didn’t want to invest $150 in a nutrition program that my family wouldn’t benefit from also. For my ultimate goal, nutrition is key so its time to invest. Right?! Right!
