More Daycare Germs

When I clocked out at 4:30 last Friday for the last time in 2015, I was feeling pretty good. Then I got the phone call from Mike. He knows my gym schedule and would never call me during cardio unless it was something important. Harper had another stomach virus. At the time we didn’t dare call it a stomach virus because we didnt want to “speak it into existence”. I spent all of Friday night cleaning up after the poor thing until she went to bed. Saturday was pretty smooth, Harper’s appetite was back and she was bouncing around. Phew! Her PM snack at daycare just didn’t agree with her stomach.

We went to go look at cars and visited Saulda Shoals’ annual light show. (pictures to come)

I woke up Sunday morning like “this is it”. I wanted Mike to promise that he wouldn’t let Harper hate Christmas like the girl from “Gremlins”. Dramatic? Maybe, but I felt horrible. My one regret is letting her see me in that state because in all seriousness my family was thisclose to taking me to the ER. She kept calling for me so Mike talked me into resting in the living room. Big mistake.

Tears. “Mommy, you otay?” And more tears.

I left the room until I was more presentable. I’m almost fully recovered and ready for some Christmas dinner! Assuming that Mike isn’t sick by then, in which case we will eat sandwiches! Ha!

Nutritional Styles and Relaxation

I am all over the place lately. It has gotten to a point where I don’t remember what life before the frenzy felt like. We went from Thanksgiving to Harper’s birthday to our anniversary to Christmas preparations and this year I threw in the stockings for NICU parents.

I choose to do all of these things in my own enthusiastic fashion because I love to see people smile. The added stress of work and what I’m going to do next is what has me worn out. Because my main goal is to create a life that I love, I have a lot of scary decisions to make.

Thankfully, I have a small break coming up so I can take a few days to breathe and work on an action plan.

Discover Your Nutritional Style

One of the main things I’d like to do for myself during my vacation is read “Discover Your Nutritional Style” by Holli Thompson. I have already taken a peek through the first two chapters and I love that she recognizes the individual. While I don’t take anything one person says as “Bible” or the whole truth because we’re all different, I don’t like to keep myself in a box. We can all learn a little something from everyone. Good grief, I sound skeptical. I’m not, I promise. Haha!

He Put a Ring On It {Five Years}

The husband and I celebrated 5 years of marriage this past weekend! Woohoo!

We woke up to a car that wouldn’t start (AGAIN) on Thursday morning so I just knew that we weren’t going to do anything. Mostly because Mike was fuming about the cost of repairs and getting a new SUV. Haha! My plan was to surprise him with pizza from our favorite place and beer. I’m so classy. Seriously though, Dano’s has the best pizza in Columbia and we don’t get it often.

Mike called me from the gym to let me know that his mom was going to watch Harper so we could get dinner! Talk about being surprised. We love a local eatery, Cafe Strudel, for the brunch menu and never tried their dinner before so he wanted to take me there. The only problem was that I looked like

We spent an hour getting Harper, Shira (our westie) and myself ready for the evening.

People rave about how good the Duck Fries are at Cafe Strudel. I’m not a fry person and I thought that it was a random item to have on their menu. Who the hell wants to eat fries and then move onto a seafood mac and cheese? I did it. Mike was so excited to try the damn fries he talked about them the entire drive over (in a rental because our car was still broken).

One glance at the Duck Fry description made me slightly intrigued. They are tossed in duck fat and truffle oil and served with an aioli. Fattening? Yes, but I was already one Texas Mule in and impatiently awaiting my mac and cheese.

Everything was delicious.

Meet the Trainer and Yoga

We’re making it “Facebook official”! I get to name the trainer and I would love to do some huge buildup about how awesome, funny, smart and hot she is BUT I’m too excited. 😉

It’s my girl Susie of Suzlyfe! Before she sent me the first wave of workouts, I was like “yes, she’s my blog buddy. This is gonna be awesome”!  When I opened the email containing routines for my first two weeks my jaw dropped. She was not messing around. Love it! My immediate response to her was that I was scared. There were words like “burpees”, “yoga” and “Pilates”. I’m one of the most uncoordinated brown chicks you’ll ever meet so I’m hoping that her guidance and lots of practice will make me a yogi.

For the past two and half weeks, I have been busting my booty in the gym and I am starting to see some results already! I’m getting leaner and this is including Thanksgiving, respiratory gunk and Harper’s birthday party featuring chicken and waffles.
