Moda VoxBox {All the Beauty Stuff}

I recently received my first Moda VoxBox from Influenster. It was filled with some free goodies for me to review and I took my time to really try the products before posting.

Thankfully, the smart folks at Influenster included a post card with all the products, their details and prices. When I watch or read reviews one of my main questions is always “great, but how much?”

Let’s start with the Rimmel products:

Scandaleyes Rockin’ Curves Mascara in the shade black: $5.49- $5.99- I’m a sucker for mascara and have been known to drop upwards of $27 for a tube. Don’t judge me. I wear glasses and I want my peepers to look nice. This mascara is super black and goes on smoothly with one application. You don’t have to worry about flaking or clumping. Admittedly, I may have neglected to remove this mascara on a few trips to the gym so I know that it is in fact waterproof. Oops! Because of the unique wand design, you can catch all of your lashes with little fussing.

Rimmel London Moisture Renew Lipstick in the shade Red Alert: $6.99- $7.49- This is Harper’s favorite item from the box. The shade I was sent is super red and that almost made me not want to try it. I like a red lip but with the weather going from hot to cold randomly, my lips have been a little dry. This lipstick actually moistens your lips and leaves them soft. The color stays put for hours and that’s good because I hate reapplying makeup.

Rimmel London Moisture Renew Lip Liner: $5.99- $6.49- The lip liner is clear. I’m putting that out there because I started playing with everything before reading the info card. When I got to the liner, I was like…

Britney gets me. It’s basically a universal liner that you can use for any shade of lipstick. No feathering and all of the definition.

Moving on:

Puffs SoftPack: 1 pack for $.99- $2.49/ 3 pack for $4.99- $5.99- It’s tissue. It’s soft and doesn’t leave behind tissue particles. We’ve used it for sniffly noses but this would be great for fixing makeup mistakes. Damn winged eyeliner.

Hair Food Moisture Mask: $14.99- I almost didn’t try this product. I’m very picky about what I use in my hair. The bulk of my beauty budget for the month goes to keeping our hair clean and healthy. I have coily/kinky hair that sucks up moisture and because I workout often I like to condition it every other day. This hair mask is free of parabens and mineral oils which was the selling point for me. It has honey and apricot oil in it and that made my hair instantly hydrated while in the shower. You know that feeling when you’re washing your hair and it’s so soft you want to just pet yourself? Yeah, that happened. Not THAT kind of petting.

The scent is light and sweet in an expensive way. I like my hair to smell salon-ish and you get a playful take on that with this product.

Swiss Miss Simply Cocoa: $2.29- I have purchased a box since drinking my gifted cup of delightfulness. It’s good.

Jergens Ultra Healing Extra Dry Skin Moisturizer: $5.99/ $6.99- Instant moisture that lasts. It’s not one of those lotions that sits on your skin, it actually penetrates.

Resource Spring Water: $1.49- 100% Natural Spring water with electrolytes that are “naturally occuring”. Love it. It’s crisp and fresh and doesn’t need any enhancements. Some waters need to be doctored with lemon or lime. The bottle is made from 50% recycled plastic and is 100% recyclable.

Have you tried anything new lately?
Is the ingredient list a factor when you’re shopping for beauty products?

I received these products complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes.

Holiday Gift Guide: Fitness Edition

People were crazy in the stores last year. There’s no other way to put it…just crazy, fighting over “stuff”. When it all boils down to it, Christmas presents (in a lot of cases) can just be described as “stuff”. They may be items that we’ve been drooling over or something we just know that our friends/family/whomever would go gaga for but it’s stuff. Because I have no desire to wait in long lines with people tapping their toes at over-worked sales associates who are assisting EVERYONE, here comes the internet. Besides, you can find some really fun and unique items on the interwebs.

Move over Thanksgiving, it’s time to start trimming those trees and decking the halls!

If you have some fitness enthused friends or blog buddies (ahem) I found some nice, affordable gift options.

Little Miss Fierce Tank– Cute and functional. Hell anyone with a bit of fierceness could rock this. Tell her to pair it with athletic tights or jeans and sport it with a bit of sass. We see you and we love it!

Train Like You Live on The Hellmouth Tank– Do you have a friend who LOVES Buffy the Vampire Slayer? Buy this, wrap it up and wait for the squeals.

Tone It Up Special Edition Yoga Pullover Sweatshirt– For the beach babe in your life. This girl likes to have fun and her enthusiasm is contagious. Get her this and tell her to spread a little of that awesomeness around.

Perfect Fit Go Stack– If you have a friend who takes her protein to go, do her a favor and get this. You can gift it alone, with something else or stuff it with goodies…like chocolate. 😉

Road ID the Wriste Elite– There are so many different styles and colors you can choose from to personalize for a friend or family member. They even come in toddler size. What’s so great about this? Safety. If Heaven forbid your friend has an accident while running or at the gym, medics will have access to emergency contact information. There are interactive badges also that route medical professionals to the website where your friend’s medical profile is stored. This is great if you know someone who suffers from something like life-threatening allergies or diabetes. The interactive ID’s cost a little more.

Knee-High Sport Sock– Everyone knows someone who has a thing for socks. If you’re thinking…”I don’t know anyone like that”…look down. What’s on your feet? Cute socks? Add them to your wishlist.

Are you gearing up for some Black Friday or Cyber Monday shopping?

Negativity, Bodybuilding & a Puff

I will never understand why some people feel compelled to undermine or criticize another person’s lifestyle choices. A YouTube vlogger that I follow posted pictures from her first bikini competition on her Facebook page this weekend and I was left shocked by some of the comments. She wears her hair in all of its natural glory (no chemical straightening treatments) and in the past that is what she mostly vlogged about. As with most people, her interests started branching into other things… for her its fitness and competing.  (She’s even a certified personal trainer now! Yay for her!) At the competition, she chose to wear a straight wig…on the head…that is connected to her person. There was a good amount of cheering from followers but the jeers were just nasty and uncalled for.
Just because a person chooses to do something out of their norm or Heaven forbid…the opposite of what you would do…it never gives you the right to call them a “sellout”, “stereotype” or anything else derogatory. If seeing another person working towards their goals brings out the venom in you, it’s time for some deep self-reflection. I’m just sayin’.
On a lighter note, I know who I want to train me and I’m emailing her today! Cross your fingers and toes, please!

Does the fear of potentially negative feedback ever stop you from posting to social media?

A Follow Up on Fall Goals and Pumpkin Spice Syrup {Recipe}

A few months ago (whoa time is flying), I posted my Fall goals. I’m proud to say that I’ve ticked most items off the list! Huzzah!

We finally made it to the pumpkin farm this past weekend. Thank goodness for by-weeks because college football has been dictating our Saturdays. Boo!

The main person who grumbled about going to “take pictures in foliage” had a great time. I’m happy to report that he did not break the hobby horse.
While these aren’t the professional photos I had in mind, they’re still frame-able so I’m counting these as family photos too. Score! Besides, we just sank $1500 into the car so the hubby doesn’t see professional photos as a necessary expense at the moment. Even though I understand and agree with his logic, there was still a small part of me that was butthurt about the decision until this weekend. I’ll remove the little guy to right of us before printing. Or maybe I’ll leave the kid in the picture. He was hellbent on photobombing us. I have three to four pictures that show him getting closer and closer. Kids.

This is one of Harper’s new headbands that she thinks is “pwetty” but refuses to wear. She has some pretty stylish teddy bears now. My crafting slowed down last month because I was running out of space for my completed projects. Someone gave me the idea to just start decorating as I complete the items. Genius! I usually start putting up Christmas decor the day after Thanksgiving anyway.
Pumpkin Spice Syrup via Earl-Leigh Designs
This may not be the healthiest but we’re going to count this as one of my easy, healthy recipes. 😉
Ingredients:
1 c pumpkin puree
1 tbsp pumpkin pie spice (I used a little more…obvisiously)
1/2 c water
Pure maple syrup or liquid sweetener of choice to taste
Directions:
Combine all ingredients in a saucepan on medium heat.
Bring to a boil and simmer for about 15 minutes.
Remove from heat.
Allow the syrup to cool to room temperature.
Store in a mason jar or a container that has a good seal.
Refrigerate for about 30 days.
As far the skirt thing goes…yeah…we’ll get back to that at a later date. Ha!

How are you doing with your goal list?

This post was fueled coffee, a dark chocolate, nuts & sea salt KIND bar and Two Door Cinema Club (they’re one of my faves).
